What an MVP should actually cost in 2026

June 10, 20266 min read

Most founders ask 'how much does an MVP cost?' and get a useless answer: 'it depends.' It does depend - but on a small number of things you can actually reason about.

The biggest cost driver is scope. An MVP is not a smaller version of your full product; it's the smallest thing that tests your riskiest assumption. Cutting scope to that core is the single highest-leverage decision you'll make.

The second driver is seniority. A cheap team that needs three attempts is more expensive than a senior team that ships once. You pay either way - in money, or in time and rework.

Our honest range: a focused MVP lands between $12,000 and $25,000 and ships in 4–8 weeks. Anything dramatically cheaper usually means you're buying a prototype you'll throw away.
